Salty Bear
About This Spot
Stepping into Salty Bear is like slipping into a familiar story woven from the threads of quieter times. Nestled in the heart of Gatlinburg, this bar carries a gentle, unpretentious pace where conversations flow as easily as the cold drinks on tap. The air holds a comforting mix of warm wood tones and well-lived-in charm, scattered with intriguing antiques that invite a glance and spark a smile.
The atmosphere hums with a sense of belonging. It’s the kind of place where strangers become friends over shared laughter and the soundtrack of classic tunes, stories passed along the bar, and the soft murmur of genuine connection. Whether you arrive looking for a quiet spot to unwind or a lively nook to celebrate the moment, Salty Bear welcomes you like one of the family.
Behind the bar, there’s a thoughtful curation of drinks that feel woven into the local character — a rich porter poured with care, a crisp beer standing tall, and the surprising delight of a fresh oyster shooter that awakens the senses. Each sip and bite echoes the easygoing spirit of the Smokies, made memorable by the people who pour their hearts into the place.
Salty Bear is less about the flash of trend and more about the enduring comfort of authenticity. Here, the walls hold stories, the staff greet you like old friends, and the moments feel quietly timeless—a rare refuge in a fast-moving world, where the simple pleasure of good company and thoughtful drink is always within reach.

Probably my favorite place in the smokies. My Dad and I come for the environment and staff. They’re wonderful to talk to and they make you feel like family. The environment is something many spend a lifetime looking for, it’s simply a time period that is gone, except here. The Conway Twitty playing, the Busch Light is cold, the shrimp is divine. You won’t find a place or people like this in many other places if any. Friendly reminder, you’ll be met with the same energy/attitude you bring in….as you should be!

Stopped in for beer to go! As staying next door...was greeted warmly and prompt. Had a short conversation with Barbara and the guy at the bar who i assume may be part owner. They were extremely pleasant and helpful with questions about the area. Plan on stopping back this week to check it out further. Interesting antiques and memorabilia throughout interior!

This is mine and my wife’s favorite place in the Smokies. People search most of their lives for a bar with the vibes The Salty Bear yields and never find it. The owners treated us like family and everyone who seems to come in there becomes friends just because it’s such a great atmosphere. If you like oysters, do not skip them here because you won’t be disappointed. Great food, great drinks, great people, great prime country music (if you don’t like that I feel sorry for you). We’re from Nashville and I’ve seen a lot of great bars in my time but this place is on my Mt Rushmore of places to get a cold beer.

I stopped in on a trip a few months ago. Hands down my favorite bar i have yet to come across. If you are a true American then I highly suggest stopping by the Salty Bear! I will be back
